newbreview.com’s 2012 Game of the Year: THE WINNER!
From the massive selection of quality titles to be released across all platforms a small handful of newbs narrowed down their list for game of the year candidates down to a selection of three titles, Spec Ops The Line, The Walking Dead and Journey. Now the final votes have been cast and the time has come to unveil the newbreview.com 2012 Game of the Year. Drum Roll please…
And the Winner Is…
The Walking Dead
Was there really any doubt, considering how much we have ranted and raved about The Walking Dead over the past six months? The one thing that linked our three nominations for Game of the Year is that they all had a distinct impact on our emotions. As emotionally affecting as Spec Ops the Line and Journey were they paled in comparison to the plethora of painful decisions that were required of the players in The Walking Dead. Not only did each of these decisions have an impact on the players, but every decision, no matter how small, had an impact on the overall narrative, going towards creating an experience that felt truly unique and personal. No other game this year managed to reduce as many of us to blubbering wrecks, and for that reason we hand over our greatest accolade to TellTale Games.
If you’d like to hear more about our love for The Walking Dead, we have produced a series of videos over the past few months and these can be watched below.
And now we open up the platform to you, our readers. What was your personal game of the year?
Walking Dead was probably my favourite game this year, but I did also love Mass Effect 3 and Hitman Absolution.
I loved Mass Effect 3 but the controversy around the ending I think killed it for any GOTY considerations.
