Next Xbox To Be Disc-free?
A report has surfaced from MVC that Microsoft has been telling their partners that their next generation console, rumored for a 2013 release, will not have a disc drive. MVC has been told that the new console will support “some sort of interchangeable solid-state card storage”.
So what does this mean for the Next Box? Will Microsoft be going down the 100% digital download route, or will they be offering some sort of game streaming service, much like Onlive and Gaikai? What about backwards compatibility, or those that use their Xboxes as a DVD player?
Whatever this means it looks like the next generation of consoles are going to be quite unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
