DL-Dos and DL-Don’ts – A Newb’s guide to… DLC

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: this generation of consoles has seen the way publishers and developers make money change irreversibly. As every console is designed to be connected to the internet 24/7, game makers can offer us extra content including new missions, characters, costumes, and even new game modes… for a price.

The rise of DLC (Downloadable Content) has led to some truly wonderful gaming experiences, but at the same time some truly terrible gaming sins have been all too regularly committed. Today The Newb Review makes note of the DLC Dos and Don’ts: dishing out praise to those that produce particularly good DLC, and condemning those that have earned our scorn through their shameful practices.

Review: Earthworm Jim HD

To say that Earthworm Jim has a rabid fanbase would be an understatement. Despite only featuring in a handful of games, Earthworm Jim managed to capture the imagination of a generation over 15 years ago when it was first released on the Sega Megadrive. The original game was ported over to every console under the sun at the time, and was eventually remade for the Sega CD with better graphics and a new sound track.

So you could say that Earthworm Jim has a history with remakes. Now, Gameloft have taken the beloved classic and brought it over in shiny smooth crystal clear HD for the current generations of consoles. But, in doing so, has the game lost that initial magic?
