I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news. Conventional wisdom would tell me to get the bad news out of the way first so that the good news can be used to pick us up after the bad news; however, that order would not make sense for the reader, so I’ll stick with how things worked chronologically. Besides, in this instance, the good news FAR outweighs the bad news! READ MORE »

Council Update: Third Time’s a Charm!
We are the Council. We have been elected to improve our community and promote the game of Vs. (and we consider it an honor to do so!). Like any leadership body, we will not be able to please everyone with every decision. That fact keeps us honest, but it doesn’t change our intent.
With that said, we as the Council want to apologize for the confusion that has ensued the past several weeks. We accept responsibility that our first announcement was not as well thought out as we had believed. It obviously left too many questions unanswered on how we envisioned things would work, how we would handle certain situations regarding new material, and how those things played into our goals for the future of Vs.
As for the second announcement, we overreacted. We tried to get something together that would please everyone as much as possible, but in the process of trying to appease as much of the community as possible, we instead caused a good amount of chaos. We plan on correcting that mistake this time around. That being said, the second announcement is officially being retracted. And the first announcement is being modified. This is a rather lengthy announcement, so we ask you to please read it all the way through before responding.

Council Update: Your 2011 Council!
It’s official! Vssystem.org has a 2011 Council. This is great news to those worried that we were headed towards Joker-led anarchy ala The Dark Knight. Here are your elected officials for this year:
Scott “scottkthompson” Thompson
Aaron “Onyxweapon” Mead
Kevin “KardKrazy” Johnson
Miguel “carlosthedwarf” Rodriguez
Jason “Banstylejbo” Brown
Squire “HomerJ” Kirshner
You may have done a double-take when you saw 6 members, but no need to adjust your monitors. The 5th spot resulted in a tie between Onyxweapon and Banstylejbo when we were polling the community. Instead of a fight to the death between these two, we decided to open up the roster a little bit. In the case of a tie-breaker during council votes, Guglio (the next closest candidate in the polling) graciously volunteered his time to help settle the issue.
Your council has hit the ground running so far, and we thought we’d just give you a taste of what we’ve been up to:
Kevin and Jason nearly have their next fanset ready for the market. This one is called DC Nightfall and may just knock your socks off. And while this isn’t specifically a Council-related activity, we all appreciate the efforts of those community members who are constantly springing new fan-content on us!
Scott is working on the 2011 Mega-Weekend. Ike E Bear helped launch it with a very successful January event; and this weekend we’re having the one-day Online Februrary Mega-Weekend. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do so now!

Miguel is working hard on a new website (or possibly a page on our current website) that helps train new players on the ins and outs of Vs. I think we can all agree this will be an invaluable resource!
Aaron is hoping to reinvigorate his writing career by starting up his own deck clinic. Stay tuned for more!
Finally, I think if someone starts a slow-clap, we can get HomerJ back on the air with The Ring Has Chosen!

OK, I’ll start! “Clap!”
Mega-Weekend World Tour: Austrailia!
By Michael Pittman (AKA “Ike E Bear”)
Sunday 23 January 2011, at Canberra’s annual CanCon gaming convention, was like Back to the Future for the remnants of Australia’s Vs System playing community.
Twelve players from near and (not too) far gathered for the first of Vs System.org’s 2011 Mega-Weekend World Tour. Five Sydney players joined with seven locals to give the event a hint of yesteryear, when players from around the country would gather for big events like $10Ks and PCQs. Granted, those events used to attract more than 12 players, but this is the closest we’ve had since PC Sydney.
“At the far end of the table, Sydney’s Ryan Dare pits his Mental X-Men against Canberra’s Chris Chapman’s Rallying Avengers. Centre, visitor Lindsay Hemming went old school with a largely MOR-based Common Deck deck against Canberra’s Andrew Sinfield, playing a DLS-based Darkseid’s Elite deck. At the near end of the table, Sydney’s Troy Armstrong and his Secret Society deck faced off against Canberra’s Pete McCook and his Wolverine Direct Attack deck.” READ MORE »
Council Update: Create-A-Ballot 2011
As mentioned in the last update, it’s 2011 now. That means we need a 2011 Council! Currently the Council consists of Scott Thompson, Kevin Johnson, Aaron Mead, Cliff Parmeter, and Sergio Acevedo. Some of us are eager to serve again; but for some of us, life has gotten in the way and it’s time to make way for new blood!
And even though a few of us have become addicted to serving the community and would love to stay on, we will all step down and rely on being nominated -and voted in- again. This is an important step in “The Council Process” because, quite honestly, it makes Council Members work hard to keep their chairs; which really benefits the community!
How will this process work?
1) Nominate someone you think is capable of putting in the time to keep this community strong. Ask any former Council Member and I think they’ll all agree that it is definitely a time commitment. If you think someone will start off strong, then flake out in a couple of months, please don’t nominate them. We strongly recommend you choose from members who are very active already.
2) The nominee needs to accept the nomination. We ask that those that accept a nomination list two things they hope to focus on during their tenure on the Council.
3) After a week or two of nominations, we’ll set up a poll to pick our 5 Council Members from the nominations.
Some current Council Members would like to start off the nomination process to get the ball rolling…
scottkthompson would like to start by suggesting HomerJ and carlosthedwarf. Both of these former council members have been invaluable to the current council. They’ve often stepped in to help when current council members needed it. Also, they’re both on the site all the time; so we know they can put in the hours
KardKrazy would like to nominate his fellow council members Onyxweapon and scottkthompson.
Onyxweapon would like to nominate KardKrazy and Banstylejbo for their excellent work on their fan sets; MWS; the Vs. System Database; and more!
And now it’s your turn. Who do you want to serve your community?

Council Update: Happy New Year!
Happy New Year and Happy Anniversary! It’s been two years to the month since UDE pulled the plug on our favorite CCG: Vs System. Yet here we all still are. Two years later and our community is still hosting tournaments on and off-line. We’ve even been adding new cards to the cardpool. In fact it might surprise you to find out exactly how much we, as a community, have actually accomplished in the last year together. Let’s take a moment to look back at our 10 biggest achievements of 2010!
Oh, and let’s do this David Letterman syle (minus the humor)! READ MORE »
Council Update: Mega-Weekend World Tour!
Christmas is coming, and the Players Council has something special planned for you (we promise it won’t be as lame as the Star Wars’ Christmas Special)! Starting next year… Mega-Weekends are coming back!
That’s right. You’ll finally have an excuse to log off vssystem.org, sift through your card collection, renew your driver’s license, and meet up with fellow players IN PERSON!
This is all going to be made possible through a generous donation of time from fellow dot-orgers. Because of this we ask that you make a serious effort to show up and support these events if they are reasonably close to you (or if they’re unreasonably close to you, but you’re filthy rich!). 100 Ideas: Marvel Round 2 (Part 2 of 4)
Welcome back riders! Let me apologize for the snail’s pace that these articles now appear, but there are good reasons. First, it’s mostly my playgroup that now does these (it appears people still read them, but are not as eager to volunteer for the matchups). Also, this semester I’m finishing my Masters Program in education. So I can rarely squeeze in games! But that doesn’t mean my enthusiasm is dwindling in the least. This tournament will go on, even if it takes the rest of my life. But, for my sanity, please volunteer for matchups so that it does not take that long! We’ve got some tasty treats ahead. Read on!
