Yes, I’m aware that the acronym for Singles-Awareness Day is SAD, but maybe we are all a little sad this Valentine’s Day. After all, it’s almost exactly one year since UDE dumped us. They were once the love of our lives, but have since ripped out our hearts and pureed them to make some kind of disgusting parody of a milkshake.
In honor of our tragic anniversary, I propose we make one last ‘drunk dial’ to UDE before tearing them out of our little black books entirely. Here’s the idea…
Let’s all go to the UDE “Ideas” page found here:
http://www.upperdeck.com/marketing/ideas.aspx
Then let’s all post something like this:
My name is ___________ and I’ve been a loyal customer of yours for years. I grew up on your sports cards, then I got pulled into your fantastic TCG called Vs. System. A year ago, UDE discontiued support for Vs. System because, while profitable, it simply wasn’t producing as expected.
I’ve got a proposal for you. Fantasty Flight games uses what they call a “Living Card Game” model. They produce “Chapter Packs”. Chapter packs are small releases that contain set cards; similar to large starter decks. They’re much cheaper to design and produce, but everyone that plays can simply buy enough of them to get an entire playset.
Fantasy Flight Games has admitted that this model has been much more profitable for them than the CCG/TCG model.
Since there’s still an audience for Vs. System, you’re almost guarenteed profitability. At the very least, if you decide you aren’t interested in producing ‘a ‘Living Card Game’, please consider selling the Vs. System game engine to an interested party as a means to help with the Konami settlement.
Either approach means you’ll be making money, and Vs. Players will get to keep playing. Everybody wins!
Thanks for your time!
Now, obviously you all can put your own personal twist on this message, but the gist should be the same: “Save our game by reprinting it as an LCG!”
Will this work? Probably not. Do we stand to lose anything by trying? Absolutely not!
Happy Valentines Day from the Vssystem.org Players Council!
