EA Announces ‘Medal of Honor’ Revamp
It seems that EA have realised that Activision got something right when they started moving away from World War II and focused on modern day combat. In response to the success of the Modern Warfare series they’ve announced that their own World War II shooter series, Medal of Honor, will undergo a similar revamp. Jumping forward in time, EA are working with real soldiers to recreate scenarios inspired by real life stories of the war in Afghanistan.
The EALA studio, developers of previous Medal of Honor series games, will be creating the single player campaign while EA DICE, developers of Battlefield: Bad Company, will be handling the multiplayer. I’m really interested to see what comes out of this combination of developers as Battlefield: Bad Company was a good game that had some great features, personality and had a lot of potential.
Are EA just being copy-cats? Maybe, but that’s normal in the game / entertainment / any industry! Competition is healthy and is a natural part of business. Activision have already capitalized heavily on their lead in this genre and I think there is definitely room for another high quality modern combat FPS. There are loads of sloppy cash cash ins out there already. Personally I’m looking forward to seeing what EA can come up with.
